So the National Sheriffs' Association backs Obama’s assault on the 2nd amendment, they don’t have a problem with his unconstitutional Executive Orders. One can only wonder what they got in return.
Some say these are rather minor issues and wouldn’t be concerned at this time. That’s nuts with any president, especially this lawless one. If we allow him this much, you know he will take more and more and more! It’s the old parable about the camels nose in the tent.
I know, you were counting on the ‘hope’ that law enforcement officers would refuse to go along with Obama’s unconstitutional assault on the 2nd amendment. It looks like that just may be a false hope.
How are the rank and file going to react to this? It means that the NSA doesn’t have their backs, if they stand on their principles they don’t know if they are standing alone. These are men and women with families to feed, mortgages to pay, etc..

Alexandria, VA - The National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) was in attendance this morning, in a ceremony at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, as President Barack Obama announced the Administration's new measures to prevent gun violence. After delivering remarks to unveil new gun control policies as part of the Administration's response to the Newtown, Conn., shootings and other tragedies, the President signed executive orders initiating 23 separate executive actions.
The 23 executive actions are included in the President's plan. NSA believes that there are "four common-sense steps we can take right now":
(1) Closing background check loopholes to keep guns out of dangerous hands;
(2) Working with prosecutors to vigorously prosecute those that commit crimes with firearms;
(3) Making schools safer by enhancing security and working with school administrators in planning for critical incidents;
(4) Increasing access to mental health services for at risk patients.
The National Sheriffs' Association applauds the Administration's initiative and efforts to reduce gun violence. Although NSA has not yet had time to thoroughly review details of the 23 executive actions, NSA believes the steps above can be implemented quickly and without legislative battles.
Moreover, Sheriffs operate more than 85% of America's jails, and 25% of inmates in jail on any given day have emotional or mental health issues. NSA supports increasing mental health services for these at risk persons before they are released and coordinating with mental health providers to deliver follow-up services.
Finally, NSA and the more than 3,000 local Sheriffs nationwide appreciate that the Obama Administration sought the input of law enforcement in addressing the issue of gun violence in this country, and that NSA's fundamental recommendation to the Administration, that "a comprehensive approach that focuses on mental health issues is the only way to prevent future tragedies," was included in the President's four-step plan. NSA stands ready to work with the Administration in any way we can to protect our children and communities by reducing gun violence.
