As reported today in the Fayetteville Observer, the State Board of Elections dismissed the frivolous and unfounded complaint against Republican state Senate challenger Wesley Meredith:
In September, the N.C. Democratic Party filed an accusation that a radio ad by Meredith for his business, Cardinal Landscaping, was too similar to his campaign for Senate. If true, the ad would have been an illegal contribution to his campaign.
But the state Board of Elections determined this week that the radio ads weren’t illegal and did not “constitute electioneering communication” by Meredith.
“I knew it was just a ploy by the liberal Democrat to just try to smear my campaign,” Meredith said this morning. “I knew I was not violating any law.”
The complaint last month to the state board came from Andrew Whalen, executive director of the N.C. Democratic Party.
Whalen couldn’t be reached for comment today.
