The Abdulmutallab Scandal
A series of factually mistaken comments have compounded the controversy sparked by intelligence chief Dennis Blair’s admission that Christmas Day bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was Mirandized before the intelligence officers had a chance to interrogate him.
In testimony before the Senate Homeland Security Committee, Director of National Intelligence Blair said it may have been a mistake that Abdulmutallab, a trained al-Qaeda operative, was processed through the criminal-justice system rather than questioned by an elite interrogation unit designed to extract intelligence from terrorists.
