We are experiencing inflation. Not officially, because the stats for inflation include home prices

Investing in Canned Goods and Shotguns?

Seems that someone is – over at Mountain House foods, which sells freeze-dried food, they are out of stock of the #10 Cans.  These are 10-serving prepared meals – chicken stew, and the like; just add water.

What’s up?  Either a lot of people are planning on long camping trips this winter, or a percentage of the population is expecting catastrophe of some sort – possibly in the form of hyper-inflation.

As for me, I’m not expecting hyper-inflation…but it is clear that, thanks to Bernanke’s Fed policies, we are experiencing inflation.  Not officially, because the stats for inflation include home prices, which continue to drop like a rock, thus keeping official inflation low, while all of us are dismayed by rapidly rising food and energy prices (the other day a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $2.99 here in Las Vegas).   And even though I downplay the chances of hyper-inflation, it could happen – with the boneheads we have running our financial system, anything is possible.

I guess we’re just heading for some interesting times…
