Were sinister forces to blame for the Deepwater Horizon disaster

Eco-terrorist who want to rid the world of oil; socialist (Obama’s masters) intent on destroying the US; Iran who recently acquired some submarines; proponents of the floundering Cap and Trade legislation; preposterous, right!

Did the government cause the Gulf spill?

The generally accepted view of the Deepwater Horizon disaster has focused on the blowout preventer and the non-standard procedures BP conducted just before the explosion and fire.  However, most of the damage and the main source of the spill came from the collapse and sinking of the DH platform rather than the initial explosion.  A new report by the Center for Public Integrity, based on testimony from people on scene and Coast Guard logs, contains evidence that the platform sunk because of a botched response from the Coast Guard, which failed to coordinate firefighting efforts and to get the proper resources to fight the fire:

What kind of ‘car’ does ‘Bagdad Bob’ Gibbs own?

Rush Limbaugh Provokes Robert Gibbs to Commit Double Gaffe

July 30, 2010

Robert Gibbs: Double Gaffe DeLuxe

The mere mention of Rush Limbaugh sends the Press Secretary into Hyper-Gaffe mode. Another day in the life of The Tool.

White House Press Secretary, Robert ‘the Tool’ Gibbs gets fired up when a reporter blows the Rush Limbaugh dog whistle and, in his excitement, Gibbs slips and puts his foot in his mouth–twice.

A reporter informed Gibbs: “You had Rush Limbaugh today — today or yesterday — talking Obama Motors again.”

The Tool was then off and running.

From Elizabeth Williamson’s Gibbs Takes on Rush Limbaugh:

“Look, Rush Limbaugh and others wanted to walk away. Rush Limbaugh and others saw a million people that worked at these factories, that worked at these parts suppliers, that had — that supported communities, and thought we should all just walk away. The president didn’t think that walking away from a million jobs in these communities made a lot of economic sense,” Gibbs said.

“I’ll let those that sat in the cheap seats a year-and-a-half ago and wanted to walk away” from a milion workers, he continued, “explain to every one of those workers why they made that decision.”

Finally, he wrapped it up: “And then you should ask Mr. Limbaugh — I don’t know what kind of car he drives, but I bet it’s not an F-150.”

Which was a safe bet for Gibbs, since the F-150 is a truck, right?

“And then you should ask Mr. Limbaugh — I don’t know what kind of car he drives, but I bet it’s not an F-150.”
–Robert “The Tool” Gibbs

Williamson also reminded readers that the F-150 is made by Ford, which didn’t take any government bailout money.

As the Mainstream Media never failed to remind us during the 2008 Election campaign: this administration is a collection of the smartest men ever assembled in any place, any time–including the Manhattan Project.

Was Japanese oil tanker attacked?

Japanese tanker damaged off Oman, cause unclear

MUSCAT/TOKYO (Reuters) – A Japanese oil tanker damaged in an explosion in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important shipping lanes, was being diverted to a port in the UAE on Wednesday.

One of the 31 crew aboard was injured but no oil leaked from the M Star very large crude carrier (VLCC), according to the Japanese transport ministry.

It said an explosion occurred onboard at around 00:30 a.m. local time (2030 GMT Tuesday), but the cause was unclear.

"A crew member saw light on the horizon just before the explosion, so (ship owner Mitsui O.S.K.) believes there is a possibility it was caused by an outside attack," Japan's ministry said in a statement.

Oman's coastguard said there was no evidence of any attack on the tanker and instead cited an earthquake.

"The boat was hit by a tremor ...we have no information of an attack," an Omani coastguard official told Reuters.

The Strait of Hormuz remained open and it was "business as usual," an official from the Omani ministry of transport said.

Al Qaeda has threatened to attack shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a route used by some 40 percent of the world's seaborne oil.

America’s healthcare system was the best in the world by far! So was their political system!!!

Yep!   That's right!  Only Eight Percent!!!..the least by far  of the last 19 presidents!!  And these people are trying to tell our big corporations how to run their business?  They know what's best for GM...Chrysler... Wall Street... and you and me?

How can the  president of a major nation and society...the  one with the most successful economic system in world  history...  stand and talk about business when he's  never worked for one?.. or about jobs when he has  never really had one??!  And neither has 92% of his senior staff and closest advisers!  They've spent most of their time in academia, government and/or non-profit jobs.... or as "community organizers" when they should have been in an  employment line.

BP Oil Spill: Clean-Up Crews Can't Find Crude in the Gulf

As Size of Slick Shrinks, Experts Say Oil is Breaking Up, Staying Below Surface

BURAS, La. July 26, 2010

For 86 days, oil spewed into the Gulf of Mexico from BP's damaged well, dumping some 200 million gallons of crude into sensitive ecosystems. BP and the federal government have amassed an army to clean the oil up, but there's one problem -- they're having trouble finding it.

The leak is capped and the spill appears to be shrinking, but where is it going?

Watch 'World News' for the latest coverage on the Gulf oil spill.

At its peak last month, the oil slick was the size of Kansas, but it has been rapidly shrinking, now down to the size of New Hampshire.

Today, ABC News surveyed a marsh area and found none, and even on a flight out to the rig site Sunday with the Coast Guard, there was no oil to be seen.

"That oil is somewhere. It didn't just disappear," said Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser.

Salvador Cepriano is one of the men searching for crude. Cepriano, a shrimper, has been laying out boom with his boat, but he's found that there's no oil to catch.

"I think it is underneath the water. It's in between the bottom and the top of the water," Cepriano said.

Even the federal government admits that locating the oil has become a problem.

"It is becoming a very elusive bunch of oil for us to find," said National Incident Cmdr. Thad Allen.

Gel that can help decayed teeth grow back could end fillings

    By Pat Hagan

Open wide: Thanks to a new gel, soon this won't hurt

A gel that can help decayed teeth grow back in just weeks may mean an end to fillings.

The gel, which is being developed by scientists in France, works by prompting cells in teeth to start multiplying. They then form healthy new tooth tissue that gradually replaces what has been lost to decay.

Researchers say in lab studies it took just four weeks to restore teeth back to their original healthy state. The gel contains melanocyte-stimulating hormone, or MSH.

We produce this in the pituitary gland, a pea-sized gland just behind the bridge of the nose.

MSH is already known to play an important part in determining skin colour - the more you have, the darker your flesh tone.

But recent studies suggest MSH may also play a crucial role in stimulating bone regeneration.

As bone and teeth are very similar in their structure, a team of scientists at the National Institute for Health and Medical Research in Paris tested if the hormone could stimulate tooth growth.

Deepwater Horizon alarms were switched off 'to help workers sleep'

Alarms and safety mechanisms on gulf disaster oil rig were disabled, chief technician at Transocean reveals

deepwater horizon Transocean is under scrutiny after it emerged that Deepwater Horizon’s safety systems were off when it exploded. Photograph: Gerald Herbert/AP

Vital warning systems on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig were switched off at the time of the explosion in order to spare workers being woken by false alarms, a federal investigation has heard.

The revelation that alarm systems on the rig at the centre of the disaster were disabled – and that key safety mechanisms had also consciously been switched off – came in testimony by a chief technician working for Transocean, the drilling company that owned the rig.

Mike Williams, who was in charge of maintaining the rig's electronic systems, was giving evidence to the federal panel in New Orleans that is investigating the cause of the disaster on 20 April, which killed 11 people.

Williams told the hearing today that no alarms went off on the day of the explosion because they had been "inhibited". Sensors monitoring conditions on the rig and in the Macondo oil well beneath it were still working, but the computer had been instructed not to trigger any alarms in case of adverse readings

BP accused of trying to silence science on spill

BP accused of trying to silence science on spill

LONDON (AFP) – The head of the American Association of Professors accused BP Friday of trying to buy the silence of scientists and academics to protect itself after the Gulf oil spill, in a BBC interview.

"This is really one huge corporation trying to buy faculty silence in a comprehensive way," said Cary Nelson.

BP is facing lawsuits after the oil spill, which has destroyed the livelihoods of many people along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

A copy of a contract offered to scientists by BP, which the BBC said it had obtained, said scientists are not allowed to publish the research they do for the oil giant.

They are also not allowed to speak about the data for at least three years or until the government gives final approval for the company's restoration plan for the whole of the Gulf, said the British broadcaster

Mexican drug gangs are taking over border areas! Laredo police officer begs to differ…

BREAKING: Multiple Ranches In Laredo, TX Taken Over By Los Zetas

US Citizens in Laredo called 911 after hearing gunfire and explosions just across the border. Laredo police spokesman Joe Baeza deflected the concerns of citizens with what I see as utter contempt. He said there was no spillover violence onto the US side and "We were getting reports from people who live on the river's edge that they could hear gunfire and explosions from the Mexico side," Baeza said, "We didn't have any incidents on the American side. It's hard for people to understand who don't live here ... They're not Vikings, they're not going to invade us, it doesn't work that way."

This was said just a day before the reported breaking news on the ranches being taken above.

Laredo officer  Joe Baeza strangely plays down the threat to border areas…why is that?

Baeza, who grew up in Laredo and saw the city expand over more than 20 years, says the reports from Washington and from communities away from the border, are sensationalizing reports of the violence in Mexico and its spillover into the U.S. “Some years ago,” he says, “the press exaggerated the story of how many undocumented Mexicans were crossing into the U.S. through this same border, and taking Americans’ jobs.” The headline of the day has gone from one “hot potato” issue to the next — both involving Mexico and its inability to control itself.

Black hole 'evicted' star from Milky Way

I can fathom how they could trace ‘it’ back but…

How is it possible for them to know it was the lone survivor of a trio of stars that wandered too close to the black hole, which captured one and threw the other two out of the Milky Way with such violence they coalesced into a single super-hot blue star, scientists say.

Would you give a naked picture of your wife to the postman if the gov’t started requiring you to before you could mail a letter

    Peeping Tom Machines

Posted by Lew Rockwell on July 22, 2010 03:07 PM

    Writes the Rev. H.R. Curtis:

The Church has been sadly silent on this scanner issue. Here’s a modest attempt to respond posted at the website of a Lutheran liturgical blog.

On Modesty, the Rights of Men, and the Failure of the Prophetic Voice of the Church

Beloved in the Lord, would you give a naked picture of your wife to the postman? If the US Government started requiring you to give postmen naked pictures of your wife before you could mail a letter — do you think it would be meet, right, and salutary for the Church to speak against this using Her prophetic voice?

Well, golly, friends, the US Government is requiring lots of folks to let government employees see naked pictures of themselves, their wives, and their children before allowing them to board planes. This is wrong. It violates the integrity of the household, the sanctity of the marriage bond, the innocence of childhood, and the prerogatives of the Hausvater.

Even the Gentiles know this. Dubai won’t allow the scanners because they are contradictory to Islam and insulting to women. They are right. They are also contradictory to all human decency and any sense of Christian modesty.

The next time you are at the airport and they want to take a pornoscan of you or your loved one, you have the blessing of this incumbent of the Apostolic Ministry to tell them, “No, thank you, that would violate my religious principles.” Some minimum wage ruffian might then pat you down, but then you could count that toward becoming a Confessor.

Any objections to this post along the lines of “they can’t really see anything” or “we need this for our security” or “this isn’t the Church’s business” will simply be referred here.

You tuber says coordinates show BP’s newly capped well video is from an old well!

Are doctored photos just the tip of the iceberg in BP’s oil well blowout and cleanup veil of secrecy?

More doctored BP photos come to light

BP’s secretive actions don’t give me a warm and fuzzy about any aspect of the well blowout.

What really happened down there? What is the real danger to the Gulf coast. What are the current risks?

You tuber says coordinates show BP’s newly capped well video is from an old well!

The Gawker Web site said it received a tip about a BP photo taken from inside a helicopter, that shows a panorama of vessels working on the sea surface near the damaged well. The view through the windows makes it appear as though the helicopter is in the air.

But the astute tipster noticed a small glimpse of a control tower in a corner of the photograph. A poor Photoshop job left some white space around the shoulder of one of the pilots next to a patch of sea that was a brighter shade of blue than other parts of the gulf. In addition, zooming in on the helicopter's gauges reveals that the helicopter is not in the air at all; the dashboard indicates that the door and ramp are open and the parking brake engaged, Gawker noted. The pilot appears to be holding a pre-flight checklist.

    (See the photos in question)

BP spokesman Scott Dean sent The Post the original photograph. The Waldos don't jump out at you. The helicopter was actually on the deck of a vessel at the spill site so the panorama of ships in the distance was there in the original photo. But the photographer, who is working on contract to BP, pasted in blue sea where the edge of the landing pad was showing. He also adjusted colors and contrast so that the interior of the helicopter was brighter, Dean said.

While the changes were minor, the embarrassment was major, coming at a time when the oil giant is trying to convince the American public that it is being open and transparent about the oil spill.

(More photos: The spill's animal victims and the cleanup effort)

The helicopter photo is the third doctored BP image outed by bloggers this week. Earlier, noticed that BP had altered an image of its crisis response center in Houston. The company's photographer had clumsily filled in blank spaces on a wall of subsea video feeds with images taken by some of the remotely operated vehicles. It is normal for some of those ROVs to be idle and to have some blank feeds.

Americablog also exposed an altered image from the Houston office, showing a technical team in front of a large projection screen. The image on the projection screen had been enhanced using Photoshop.

BP's Dean also provided the original of that photo to The Post. In the original, the screen appears to be entirely white because of the light contrast with the rest of the room. Dean said that the photographer used "the color saturation tool" to show "a clearer version of the same image on the projection screen."

Dean said that the altered helicopter and headquarters photographs, like the doctored one of the Houston control room, would be promptly taken down from the BP Web site. The original and altered versions would be placed on BP's Flickr site so people can compare them, Dean said.

Robert Rubin and the Band of Bilderberg Ponzi Schemers: Would a crook turn over a crook?

In 2008, Clinton slipped into the now infamous Bilderberg conference in Washington, accompanied by Barak Hussein Obama, the next President of the United States

    July 21, 2010

In October of  2005, in one of many speeches, Robert Rubin addressed a group of students at Princeton University. When he was done, a round of applause was offered from the audience. After all, Rubin had taken time out from his busy schedule to address concerns of the future  bright young hope of the United States – the students –  the next generation that would take the reins moving forward.

He told the students of Princeton that day, that there might be a chance that the economy was going to take a nosedive. Like pulling out a fry pan and a couple of eggs, it would be easy to predict that the eggs will be cooked, especially since you intend to cook them. We should give the intelligent youth in the lecture hall that day some credit – they probably knew it wasn’t eggs on the fry pan, it was more like a few gooses – as in, our goose is cooked!

Some of the excited group at Princeton probably didn’t know Robert Rubin was working with the power elite of the world. Their educations, and more, their dreams would become futile in a world where freedoms were being stripped, educations would be slated to become mere tools for slavery, heck, one’s very existence would be in question. The group responsible for the world’s change to bondage – The Bilderberg Group.

Rubin, as former Secretary of Treasury, worked his post in the mid to late ’90 ‘s under Bill Clinton (wait for it – a fellow  Bilderberger). Clinton’s wife Hillary, we all know today as a regular Bilderberg contributor. Don’t be alarmed if she was missing from this year’s list of delegates . It means little.

In 2008, Clinton slipped into the now infamous Bilderberg conference in Washington, accompanied by the next President of the United States. Little chance she was on the official, secret list then either,so don’t be confused – her loyalty was not in question.

Breaking a few rules to get things done, I’m sure could easily be argued by the Bilderbergers, when important decisions need to be made. On  that evening in 2008,  the group of the most powerful in the world would decide whether Clinton would step aside leaving Obama to assume the American Presidency. Reporters to this day are no doubt still scratching their heads in wonder why Obama never got on the flight to Chicago that evening. That’s easy – the press weren’t invited to witness real news.

    China agency 'downgrades' U.S. debt

    Wednesday, July 21, 2010 | Teeka Tiwari

    Wait a minute, what?
    I know what you're thinking: "Is this a joke?"  It's not a joke ...
Amid little fanfare, China's leading credit rating agency, Dagong Global Credit Rating Co., cut the USA's credit rating from AAA to AA.  Truth be told, Dagong is a nobody in the global ratings game, which is dominated by the three member oligarchy made up of S&P, Moody's and Fitch.

    Political Puppet or Genuine Analysis?

Could there be some tit for tat at play here between China and the US?  After all, the US has been jawboning China relentlessly on the value on the Yuan.  But a Chinese government led attack on America's credit rating really doesn't make much sense for the Chinese.  If you owned $1 trillion worth of US debt, would you be in a hurry to knock down its value?
Is it more likely that Dagong is attempting to separate itself from its competitors by making the tough calls?  Think about it logically -- how far fetched can a US credit rating cut be when we're scheduled to see our national debt eclipse our GDP within the next decade?

The New Masters of the Universe

As laughable as Dagong's analysis may appear to most Westerners, there is nothing laughable about how serious Dagong is about offering an alternative "non western" view when it comes to sovereign credit ratings.
They've already set up a dedicated school of credit management at the prestigious Tianjin University of Finance and Economics.  The school (the first of its kind in China) is entirely devoted to the study of credit rating and risk management.
Knowing how to price risk appropriately is a HUGE trading edge.  Not convinced?  John Paulson's $15 billion pile of credit default swap winnings is a pretty compelling testament to the power of knowing how to appropriately price risk.
Think about this:  Back in  2007, credit default insurance could be bought on Greek sovereign debt for about $5,000 per $10,000,000 in coverage.  Today that same coverage will cost you $892,000.
Consider the implications of that for a moment.
How could such a GIGANTIC mis-pricing of risk be allowed to take place in a world full of Ivy League educated mega brains?  It takes a special kind of smart to be that dumb, I guess.
The ugly truth of it is that the ratings agencies, specifically S&P and Moody's, are run by incompetent, mentally lazy and complacent management teams.  This is what happens when you allow oligopolies to flourish.  Why should they change?  What incentive do they have to change?
No terrorist or foreign sovereign power did more to harm our interests than these bozos.  Truth be told, both companies should be dismantled and their respective management teams should be given multiple life sentences.

Scary Stupid or Corrupt as Hell?

We really have to ask ourselves:  Could the men and women who work for the ratings agencies be so smart and so excessively incompetent at the same time?
In my opinion, the truth is far uglier.  I believe that it is more than plausible that these people knew that what they were rubber stamping as triple-A rated was in actual fact garbage.  How could they not have known?  At the end of the day it was all about getting their 30 pieces of silver, period, end of discussion.
These guys could not care less about you and I or the long term implications of their actions.  This concept that is fobbed off on us that the people in charge are assumed to comport themselves with a higher sense of duty and honor is utter twaddle.  For them, it's all about getting as much as they can as quickly as they can without getting caught.
This ruthless, naked greed, this whole, "get mine" at all costs mentality is a sickness rotting our country from the inside out.  This whole idea of personal enrichment at any cost is not what my idea of capitalism is about.
We have got to let our voices be heard, and start supporting non conventional political candidates.  We have to demand that these corporate and political parasites that got us in this mess are held to account.  They are bleeding the good people of this country dry.
Bit by bit, drop by drop, the life blood of this great nation is slowly seeping away into a miasma that is being supped on and sucked up to feed the twin evils of crony capitalism and wild government spending.
We must act to save our children and children's children from succumbing to this moral taint that appears to have our corporate and political leaders within its grips.  How long can any society that constantly steals from its populace really last?
I want to hear about your solutions -- are you seeing any political candidates that are worthy of our votes?  How do We The People take our country back?

REVEALED: Secret Gold Coin Tax Slipped Into Health Care Law...

Those already outraged by the president's health care legislation now have a new bone of contention -- a scarcely noticed tack-on provision to the law that puts gold coin buyers and sellers under closer government scrutiny.

The issue is rising to the fore just as gold coin dealers are attracting attention over sales tactics.

Section 9006 of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will amend the Internal Revenue Code to expand the scope of Form 1099. Currently, 1099 forms are used to track and report the miscellaneous income associated with services rendered by independent contractors or self-employed individuals.

    Coin Dealers Flipping

Starting Jan. 1, 2012, Form 1099s will become a means of reporting to the Internal Revenue Service the purchases of all goods and services by small businesses and self-employed people that exceed $600 during a calendar year. Precious metals such as coins and bullion fall into this category and coin dealers have been among those most rankled by the change.

This provision, intended to mine what the IRS deems a vast reservoir of uncollected income tax, was included in the health care legislation ostensibly as a way to pay for it. The tax code tweak is expected to raise $17 billion over the next 10 years, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation.

Taking an early and vociferous role in opposing the measure is the precious metal and coin industry, according to Diane Piret, industry affairs director for the Industry Council for Tangible Assets. The ICTA, based in Severna Park, Md., is a trade association representing an estimated 5,000 coin and bullion dealers in the United States.

"Coin dealers not only buy for their inventory from other dealers, but also with great frequency from the public," Piret said. "Most other types of businesses will have a limited number of suppliers from which they buy their goods and products for resale."

Who benefits from this $3.7 trillion

Is it you? It’s not me! Is it Wall Street? Is it the money lenders at the Federal Reserve?

I don’t know if this is true or not, but there has to be some reason Grahmnesty voted for Kagan

The secret reason Lindsey Graham voted for Elena Kagan

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) betrayed conservatives Tuesday as the only Republican on the Judiciary Committee to vote for Elena Kagan, the Supreme Court nominee whom CBS news originally reported to be an openly homosexual Lesbian, but later described her as a closeted Lesbian.  When all Republicans except Graham opposed Kagan yesterday on a 13-6 vote to forward her nomination to the full Senate, Lindsey Graham defended his vote for Kagan, saying:  "The Constitution in my view puts a requirement on me as a senator to not replace my judgment for his, not to think of the 100 reasons I would pick somebody differently, or pick a fight with Miss Kagan."

But William Gheen of ALIPAC recently suggested Graham could be facing personal blackmail, telling a crowd the reasons Lindsey Graham has never married:  "I hope this secret isn't being used as leverage over Senator Graham, so today I think Senator Graham, you need to come forward and tell people about your alternative lifestyle and your homosexuality.   Barney Frank is more honest and brave than [Graham]," Gheen continued, referring to the openly-gay Massachusetts congressman.  If Gheen's allegations are correct, it could logically explain why the Homosexual Graham supported the Lesbian Kagan, against the pleas of thousands of phone callers and faxers who demanded Graham filibuster Kagan.

So everybody please call Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC, 202-224-5972) and express your disappointment with Graham's vote for Kagan.  But the full Senate vote is coming fast, and it's not too late to demand a filibuster of Kagan's nomination

    Stop Kagan petition!

No Solid Answers Given as Oil Spill Spreads

It’s been 92 days and there are still no solid answers to the crisis in the gulf. For now a containment cap holds back the oil, but there are new concerns about what it may be doing to the fractured well and confusion over what may come next. According to Admiral Thad Allen, the government’s point man for the recovery, the right thing seems to be keeping the cap over the leaking riser, despite new evidence of a small leak at the base of the containment stack, bubbles around the blowout preventer and possible seepage from the ocean floor nearly two miles from the well head. “There is no indication at this time that this is any indication of a significant problem in the well bore,” Allen said Tuesday afternoon. Meanwhile, BP continues to move forward with plans to try and permanently seal the well. That process could begin by the end of the month.

BP’s secretive actions don’t give me a warm and fuzzy about any aspect of the well blowout.

They’ve had a media blackout along the coast, there’ve been reports of intimidation of residents to silence them, cleanup crews were ordered not to talk, they were caught with supposedly live feeds that were looping. Who knows what the real story is a mile below the ocean surface in the Gulf!

BP's altered photo distorts spill center activity

    Jul 20 06:25 PM US/Eastern

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - BP acknowledges it posted on its website an altered photo that exaggerates the activity at its Gulf oil spill command center in Houston.

The picture posted over the weekend showed workers monitoring a bank of 10 giant video screens displaying underwater images.

Spokesman Scott Dean says Tuesday that two screens were blank in the original picture and a staff photographer used Photoshop software to add images.

Dean says the company put the unaltered picture up Monday after a blogger wrote about telltale discrepancies.

He says the photographer was showing off his Photoshop skills, and there was no ill intent.

Dean says BP has ordered workers to use Photoshop only for things like color correction, cropping and removing glare.

“If you have a bazooka in your pocket and people know it, you probably won’t have to use it.”Henry Paulson

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, front man for the greatest heist in the history of thieves...and it’s still going on!

    Ellen Brown

“These capitalists generally act harmoniously and in concert to fleece the people, and now that they have got into a quarrel with themselves, we are called upon to appropriate the people’s money to settle the quarrel.”
    – Abraham Lincoln, speech to Illinois legislature, January 1837

In July, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said of his massive underwriting scheme for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, “If you have a bazooka in your pocket and people know it, you probably won’t have to use it.” On September 7, Paulson pulled out his bazooka and fired, effectively nationalizing the mortgage giants. Last week, Paulson pulled out the bazooka again and held it to Congress’s head. “Seven hundred billion dollars or your credit system will collapse!” Seven hundred billion dollars is more than the country currently pays annually for Social Security; and for what do we owe this ransom? To bail out bankers from their own folly in speculating in a giant derivative Ponzi scheme that is now imploding. But policymakers justify rewarding the guilty parties at the expense of the taxpayers by arguing that “we have to do it to save the banking system.”

Abraham Lincoln was faced with a similar situation when he stepped into the Presidency in 1861. The country was suddenly in a civil war, and there was insufficient money to fund it. The British bankers, knowing they had him over a barrel, agreed to lend him money only at 24 to 36% interest, highly usurious rates that would have bankrupted the North. Our fearless forefather said, “Thanks but no thanks, I’ll print my own.” Issuing the national currency is the sovereign right of governments. A government does not need to borrow its national currency from bankers “merely pretending to have money.” That was the phrase used by Thomas Jefferson when he realized the bankers’ “fractional reserve” lending scheme meant that they were lending the same “reserves” many times over.

The federal dollars issued by Lincoln were called U.S. Notes or Greenbacks

The cap…could make the sea bed unstable and cause the well to collapse

Is experimental well cap making disaster worse?

By COLLEEN LONG and MATTHEW DALY, Associated Press Writers Colleen Long And Matthew Daly, Associated Press Writers 2 hrs 57 mins ago

NEW ORLEANS – Scientists huddled Tuesday to analyze data from the ocean floor as they weigh whether a leaking well cap is a sign BP's broken oil well is buckling.

Oil and gas started seeping into the Gulf of Mexico again Sunday night, but this time more slowly, and scientists aren't sure whether the leaks mean the cap that stopped the flow last week is making things worse.

The government's point man on the disaster, retired Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, will decide again later Tuesday whether to continue the test of the experimental cap — meaning the oil would stay blocked in.

He said Monday the amount of oil leaking was so far inconsequential. But ever since the flow of oil was closed off Thursday, engineers have been glued to underwater cameras and pressure and seismic readings, trying to determine whether the cap is displacing pressure and causing leaks underground, which could make the sea bed unstable and cause the well to collapse.

The return of the useful idiot

Oliver Stone, Naomi Campbell, Danny Glover, Rep. Jan Schakowsky and Sean Penn: The return of the useful idiot

Last month, Oliver Stone’s ”South of the Border” made its American debut. The documentary’s focus is Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez, who Stone believes has been cruelly demonized in Western media.

In the “documentary,” Stone offers absolutely no criticism of Chavez or the other six left-wing Latin American presidents he interviews. While he takes nothing the U.S. governments says at face value, the left-wing Latin American leaders can tell no lie, most especially Chavez.

For proof of the Western media’s perfidy in covering the sometimes clownish Venezuelan leader, Stone shows some loose-lipped cable news commentators calling Chavez a dictator. To a certain extent Stone has a point. Chavez is not a dictator — yet. But Chavez surely aspires to that position and plenty of people seriously doubt, including myself, whether Chavez would ever peacefully give up power.

E-mails reveal Washington Post reporter savaging conservatives, rooting for Democrats

By Jonathan Strong - The Daily Caller

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh famously said he hoped President Obama would “fail” in January, 2009. Almost a year later, when Limbaugh was rushed to the hospital with chest pains, Washington Post reporter David Weigel had a wish of his own. “I hope he fails,” Weigel cracked to fellow liberal reporters on the “Journolist” email list-serv.

    “Too soon?” he wondered.

Weigel was hired this spring by the Post to cover the conservative movement. Almost from the beginning there have been complaints that his coverage betrays a personal animus toward conservatives.  E-mails obtained by the Daily Caller suggest those complaints have merit.

“Honestly, it’s been tough to find fresh angles sometimes–how many times can I report that these [tea party] activists are joyfully signing up with the agenda of discredited right-winger X and discredited right-wing group Y?” Weigel lamented in one February email.

In other posts, Weigel describes conservatives as using the media to “violently, angrily divide America.” According to Weigel, their motives include “racism” and protecting “white privilege,” and for some of the top conservatives in D.C., a nihilistic thirst for power.

“There’s also the fact that neither the pundits, nor possibly the Republicans, will be punished for their crazy outbursts of racism. Newt Gingrich is an amoral blowhard who resigned in disgrace, and Pat Buchanan is an anti-Semite who was drummed out of the movement by William F. Buckley. Both are now polluting my inbox and TV with their bellowing and minority-bashing. They’re never going to go away or be deprived of their soapboxes,” Weigel wrote.

Of Matt Drudge, Weigel remarked,  “It’s really a disgrace that an amoral shut-in like Drudge maintains the influence he does on the news cycle while gay-baiting, lying, and flubbing facts to this degree.”

In April, Weigel wrote that the problem with the mainstream media is “this need to give equal/extra time to ‘real American’ views, no matter how f#cking moronic, which just so happen to be the views of the conglomerates that run the media and/or buy up ads.”

When Obama’s “green jobs czar” Van Jones resigned after it was revealed he signed a 9/11 “truther” petition, alleging the government may have conspired to allow terrorists to kill 3,000 civilians, Weigel highlighted the alleged racism of Glenn Beck – Jones’s top critic.

Documents show media plotting to kill stories about Rev. Jeremiah Wright

It was the moment of greatest peril for then-Sen. Barack Obama’s political career. In the heat of the presidential campaign, videos surfaced of Obama’s pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, angrily denouncing whites, the U.S. government and America itself. Obama had once bragged of his closeness to Wright. Now the black nationalist preacher’s rhetoric was threatening to torpedo Obama’s campaign.

The crisis reached a howling pitch in mid-April, 2008, at an ABC News debate moderated by Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos. Gibson asked Obama why it had taken him so long – nearly a year since Wright’s remarks became public – to dissociate himself from them. Stephanopoulos asked, “Do you think Reverend Wright loves America as much as you do?”

Watching this all at home were members of Journolist, a listserv comprised of several hundred liberal journalists, as well as like-minded professors and activists. The tough questioning from the ABC anchors left many of them outraged. “George [Stephanopoulos],” fumed Richard Kim of the Nation, is “being a disgusting little rat snake.”

…during the 2008 presidential campaign a group of liberal journalists took radical steps to protect their favored candidate. Employees of news organizations including Time, Politico, the Huffington Post, the Baltimore Sun, the Guardian, Salon and the New Republic participated in outpourings of anger over how Obama had been treated in the media, and in some cases plotted to fix the damage.

In one instance, Spencer Ackerman of the Washington Independent urged his colleagues to deflect attention from Obama’s relationship with Wright by changing the subject. Pick one of Obama’s conservative critics, Ackerman wrote, “Fred Barnes, Karl Rove, who cares — and call them racists.”

Video Shows USDA Official Saying She Didn't Give 'Full Force' of Help to White Farmer

Days after the NAACP clashed with Tea Party members over allegations of racism, a video has surfaced showing an Agriculture Department official regaling an NAACP audience with a story about how she withheld help to a white farmer facing bankruptcy -- video that now has forced the official to resign.

Shirley Sherrod, the department's Georgia director of Rural Development, is shown in the clip describing "the first time I was faced with having to help a white farmer save his farm." Sherrod, who is black, claimed the farmer took a long time trying to show he was "superior" to her. The audience laughed as she described how she determined his fate.

"He had to come to me for help. What he didn't know while he was taking all that time trying to show me he was superior to me was I was trying to decide just how much help I was going to give him," she said. "I was struggling with the fact that so many black people have lost their farmland and here I was faced with having to help a white person save their land -- so I didn't give him the full force of what I could do. I did enough."

The Agriculture Department announced Monday, shortly after published its initial report on the video, that Sherrod had resigned.

Additional petitions, such as the Manhattan Declaration on Climate Change included scientists and researchers in climate and related fields, economists, policymakers, and business leaders who had reviewed the evidence and affirmed that climate change is natural and normal and that carbon dioxide is not a “pollutant,” among other things.

The missing link in the global elitists plan for world governance. Most leaders are a part of it, but not in on it!

This is one of the most important articles I’ve ever read concerning the ‘new world order’ conspiracy, although the article is not about that.

The question I had was how could so many be involved in it! The answer is obvious…they don’t even realize they are! They’re just looking out for their own self interest, not the national interest. Their goal is personal fame, fortune, and power! They want in with the ‘in crowd’!

I’ve posted about how the macro-political system in the US is not a two party system, but a one party system with two branches. Blinded by their greed, most of the players don’t even realize it.

The article is lengthy but well worth the read if you’re a concerned citizen.

    America's Ruling Class

By Angelo M. Codevilla from the July 2010 - August 2010 issue

As over-leveraged investment houses began to fail in September 2008, the leaders of the Republican and Democratic parties, of major corporations, and opinion leaders stretching from the National Review magazine (and the Wall Street Journal) on the right to the Nation magazine on the left, agreed that spending some $700 billion to buy the investors' "toxic assets" was the only alternative to the U.S. economy's "systemic collapse." In this, President George W. Bush and his would-be Republican successor John McCain agreed with the Democratic candidate, Barack Obama. Many, if not most, people around them also agreed upon the eventual commitment of some 10 trillion nonexistent dollars in ways unprecedented in America. They explained neither the difference between the assets' nominal and real values, nor precisely why letting the market find the latter would collapse America. The public objected immediately, by margins of three or four to one.

The neocon Newt is expressing doubts about Obama’s colonial war in Afghanistan. Not about the people killed nor the property destroyed, of course, but he worries that the war might be bad for the empire.

George Will and Tony Blankley have expressed similar doubts. Is this akin to the Republican comments during Clinton’s war on Serbia, just partisan blather? Or are these neocons worried that the imperial trouble in Afghanistan might hinder their planned next war of aggression, against Iran?

Bill Kristol claims that all these wars and more are doable, and demonizes dissent. But as Niall Ferguson points out, the US empire–with its crazed spending, debt, and money printing–is in danger of sudden collapse. And as he also points out, in these revolutionary wars, we are the Redcoats. (Thanks to Daniel)

The Con of the Decade Part I   (July 8, 2010)
The con of the decade (Part I) involves the transfer of private debt to the public (the marks), who then pays interest forever to the con artists.

I've laid out the Con of the Decade (Part I) in outline form:

    1. Enable trillions of dollars in mortgages guaranteed to default by packaging unlimited quantities of them into mortgage-backed securities (MBS), creating umlimited demand for fraudulently originated loans.

    2. Sell these MBS as "safe" to credulous investors, institutions, town councils in Norway, etc., i.e. "the bezzle" on a global scale.

    3. Make huge "side bets" against these doomed mortgages so when they default then the short-side bets generate billions in profits.

    4. Leverage each $1 of actual capital into $100 of high-risk bets.

    5. Hide the utterly fraudulent bets offshore and/or off-balance sheet (not that the regulators you had muzzled would have noticed anyway).

    6. When the longside bets go bad, transfer hundreds of billions of dollars in Federal guarantees, bailouts and backstops into the private hands which made the risky bets, either via direct payments or via proxies like AIG. Enable these private Power Elites to borrow hundreds of billions more from the Treasury/Fed at zero interest.

    7. Deposit these funds at the Federal Reserve, where they earn 3-4%. Reap billions in guaranteed income by borrowing Federal money for free and getting paid interest by the Fed.

    8. As profits pile up, start buying boatloads of short-term U.S. Treasuries. Now the taxpayers who absorbed the trillions in private losses and who transferred trillions in subsidies, backstops, guarantees, bailouts and loans to private banks and corporations, are now paying interest on the Treasuries their own money purchased for the banks/corporations.

    9. Slowly acquire trillions of dollars in Treasuries--not difficult to do as the Federal government is borrowing $1.5 trillion a year.

    10. Stop buying Treasuries and dump a boatload onto the market, forcing interest rates to rise as supply of new T-Bills exceeds demand (at least temporarily). Repeat as necessary to double and then triple interest rates paid on Treasuries.

Reid clears deck for energy reform bill

By Alexander Bolton - 07/19/10 06:00 AM ET

Senate and House Democrats are headed for a clash this week over funding for U.S. troops in Afghanistan, as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) races to clear the schedule for long-awaited energy reform legislation.
The Senate and House are squabbling over $22.8 billion House appropriators added to the supplemental bill. House lawmakers note that it’s fully paid for with offsets, such as $11.7 billion in rescissions to government programs that no longer need funding.

Senate Democratic leaders, however, doubt the House bill can pass their chamber with the extra spending, including $10 billion for an Education Jobs Fund to save 140,000 school jobs over the next year.
Senate passage is complicated by a pending veto threat from President Obama. He objects to the House proposal to pay for the education fund by rescinding money for the administration’s “Race to the Top” initiative, which rewards academically improved schools with grants.
A Senate Democratic aide said leaders will nevertheless schedule a vote on the House legislation. If it fails, the aide said, “we’ll have to figure out what to do.”

Obama took over the auto industry and promptly shut down republican dealerships!

Govt watchdog criticizes handling of car dealers

WASHINGTON — The Treasury Department failed to consider the economic fallout when it told General Motors and Chrysler to quickly shutter many dealerships as part of government-led bankruptcies, a federal watchdog found.

A report released Sunday by the special inspector general for the government's bailout program raised questions about whether the Obama administration's auto task force considered the job losses from the closings while pressuring the companies to reduce costs.

Treasury didn't show why the cuts were "either necessary for the sake of the companies' economic survival or prudent for the sake of the nation's economic recovery," said the audit by Neil Barofsky, the special inspector general for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, the $787 billion stimulus program known as TARP.

"Treasury made a series of decisions that may have substantially contributed to the accelerated shuttering of thousands of small businesses," investigators said.

Those decisions resulted in "potentially adding tens of thousands of workers to the already lengthy unemployment rolls — all based on a theory and without sufficient consideration of the decisions' broader economic impact," the report said.

But the Kenyan president, Obama, is helping the president of Kenya!

    EDITORIAL: The Kenya connection

Obama administration efforts in Africa may violate federal law

That hasn’t bothered him with anything else so far!

The Kenyan president wants a new constitution, one that opens the door to abortion on demand. President Obama is willing to use U.S. taxpayer dollars to persuade voters to approve the updated governing document, which would loosen regulations designed to protect the unborn, establish Muslim family courts and create a right to homosexual marriage. It's not unusual that Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki would see enactment of the provisions as a "government project," but Mr. Obama is on shaky legal ground when he commits U.S. government resources to it.

Moving manzanita bush costs S.F. a small fortune

    Phillip Matier,Andrew Ross

Money may not grow on trees, but it sure cost taxpayers a bundle to move a bush that was found growing in the path of the Doyle Drive rebuild.

Not just any bush - this was the Franciscan manzanita, a city native that was thought for 60 years to be extinct until the bush was spotted late last year.

With the final bills in, the cost of moving the bush in January came to $175,000 - $140,000 to dig up and move the shrub, and $35,000 for "support" services from geological, botanical and climate experts in preparation for its new home in the Presidio less than a mile away.

The discovery of the 8-inch-tall, 20-foot-wide bush was greeted with cries of joy by nature enthusiasts but quiet shock by the San Francisco County Transportation Authority, which suddenly found a leafy version of the spotted owl right in the path of a billion-dollar roadway.

"We took this very seriously," said San Francisco County Transportation Authority head José Luis Moscovich.

    No kidding.
