Bono: It’s very annoying following…Christ…He’s very demanding of your life. Sees capitalism as superior to socialism

This is interesting, although there have been a slew of ‘has been’ celebs who’ve tried to rekindle their careers at Christ expense. I haven’t seen that in this case but I don’t follow the Entertainment Tonight circuit myself.

Bono, from what little I’ve seen of his career, has seemed to be somewhat different than the norm. He could be playing the role of ‘controlled opposition’ where the desired outcome is the same for both sides, even though they seem to be in direct conflict.

One of the tactics of the globalists/elites/NWO adherents/bankster cabal/Illuminati/etc. is to create division. To have division you have to have more than one side, so in the tactic of ‘controlled opposition’ you control both sides towards the desired end.

The object of this division is multifaceted, not just to divide and conquer but to divide and create chaos because they have embraced the concept that order comes out of chaos.

So, in order to bring about their long dreamed of ‘new world order’ they must first bring about chaos. That’s why you see such insane things happening in the world of politics, things that make you scratch your head and say ‘that makes no sense at all’ and everyone knows it! They know it makes no sense but it keeps the masses in a state of agitation, a state of confusion, a state of chaos!

I don’t know if Bono is for real, but he is presenting the real Biblical view of individual rights, property rights, as opposed to communism/socialism.

Bono: “Capitalism takes more people out of poverty than aid”

Our Research Fellow George Ayittey met the Irish rock star Bono in July 2007 during a TED conference. Professor Ayittey was speaking and in knowing that Bono would be in the audience, he explains that “I made a special effort to rip into the foreign aid establishment.... Later, Bono said he liked my speech but did not agree with me that foreign aid is not effective in ending poverty. So I gave him a copy of my book, Africa Unchained: The Blueprint for Development.”

Bono (nee Paul David Hewson) is the lead singer in the rock group U2, one of the most successful rock groups in history. Bono also became a major proponent of greatly expanded U.S. foreign aid and other government programs (including debt cancellation) to alleviate the dire plight in the world of HIV/AIDS, malaria, abject poverty, and other issues.

Bono has further been Co-Founder and Managing Director with the venture capital firm, Elevation Partners, and he may well be the world’s wealthiest musician after his investment in the Facebook IPO, which made over $1.5 billion for the firm.

Bono is also a Christian (see here, here, and here). He is an admirer of the work of C.S. Lewis and used Lewis’s book The Screwtape Letters in a music video for the song “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me,” the theme song for the film, Batman Forever. More recently, he has indicated in an interview with Jim Daly at Focus on the Family that Lewis might inspire the next U2 album:

Bono: It’s very annoying following this Person of Christ around [chuckling], because He’s very demanding of your life.

Daly: It’s very hard.

Bono: And it’s hopeless ... trying to keep up with it.

Daly: In fact, Bono, C. S. Lewis has a great quote which I love: “When a man is getting better, he understands more and more clearly the evil that’s left in him. When a man is getting worse, he understands his own badness less and less.” That is powerful, isn’t it?

Bono: Yeah, it might ... that could turn up on the next U2 album, but I won’t give him or you any credit.

Just recently drawing upon his Christian faith (and possibly the economics influence of Professor Ayittey?), in a speech at Georgetown University, Bono altered his economic and political views and declared that only capitalism can end poverty.

“Aid is just a stopgap,” he said. “Commerce [and] entrepreneurial capitalism take more people out of poverty than aid. We need Africa to become an economic powerhouse.”

Bono encouraged students to think of what they can do to support those in Africa and other developing nations that are in need of justice and comfort.

He compared the effort to how St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, made his commitment to serve others.

“That’s what I’m hoping happens here at Georgetown with you,” he said. “Because when you truly accept that those children in some far off place in the global village have the same value as you in God’s eyes or even in just your eyes, then your life is forever changed, you see something that you can’t un-see.”

C.S. Lewis well understood the fallacy and indeed evil of statism in addressing the pains and suffering of our world, and we welcome Bono’s new insights into the matter. And Professor Ayittey’s incisive work can also be found in the Independent Institute book, Making Poor Nations Rich: Entrepreneurship and the Process of Economic Development, edited by Benjamin Powell.

Cover-up: 400 SAM Missiles Stolen in Benghazi Attack

Stolen missiles may be part of it but why the ‘stand down’ orders? Why were Americans abandoned? Why didn’t they even try to stop it?

I can see why the administration would try to hide the fact that they let 400 SAM missiles fall into radical groups hands; why they would lie about the cause of the attack, but that doesn’t explain their actions during the attack!

Their inaction during the attack is tantamount to allowing, willfully, the ‘very ugly people’ to get their hands on the SAMs! Why else would they not send in the cavalry! Wouldn’t you think they would do everything possible to prevent those types of weapons from being stolen?

Former U.S. Attorney Joe DiGenova shed new light on the circumstances surrounding the September 11, 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack Monday on WMAL.

DiGenova, legal representative for Benghazi whistleblower Mark Thompson, revealed new information from intelligence officials with knowledge of the incident indicates the assault on the U.S. mission concerned 400 surface-to-air missiles intended for Syrian rebels that were stolen by some “very ugly people.”

The intelligence community fears the stolen missiles could be used to shoot down an airliner or blow up an embassy, DiGenova said:

JOE DIGENOVA: We had troops ready to deploy in Croatia to go [to Benghazi] that night of Sept. 11, 2012 to rescue Americans. We have learned that one of the reasons the administration is so deeply concerned — we have been told there were 400 surface-to-air missiles stolen, and that they are on or about in the hands of many people, and that the biggest fear in the U.S. intelligence community is that one of these missiles will be used to shoot down an airliner.

This is why we shut down the 19 embassies recently. They were afriad that there was going to be a missile attack on one of the embassies. Remember, you can take a shoulder held missile and shoot it into an embassy, not just into the sky.

DiGenova went on to allege political concerns about the possibility of future terrorist acts involving the stolen weaponry were the reason the Obama administration initially blamed the attack on an anti-Islam video.

President Obama, DiGenova said, is attempting to “cover his fanny” by publicizing indictments against the Benghazi suspects to give the illusion “he’s doing something when in fact he’s done nothing”:

JOE DIGENOVA: What happened is, the reason they lied, about — in other words, remember the famous demonstration, and the phony video and all of that? That’s what this was all about. That’s why they’re so worried. That’s why they have lied repeatedly about what happened in Benghazi. Because they are now responsible for all of the stepchildren of violence that happens as a result of this. This is a very serious manner. And when you compound it with the flippancy of the president of the United States who talks about a sealed indictment to cover his fanny — to make it look like he’s doing something when in fact he has done nothing — we have reached a level of cynicism on the part of this president that is staggering.

In the latest blasphemous act by Obama youth, a boy ‘prays’ “You are good, Barack Obama. You are great…”

A shocking video featuring a child seemingly praying to the commander-in-chief is sparking outrage from conservatives, as well as more religious members of the public who view the boy’s actions as possibly blasphemous.

“Barack Obama, thank you for doing everything and all the kind stuff… Thank you for all the stuff you helped us with,” the little boy, who identifies himself as Steven, says as he kneels down and closes his eyes in typical praying fashion.

“You are good, Barack Obama. You are great and when you get older you will be able to do great things. Love, Steven,” the boy concludes.

Fox News Radio reporter Todd Starnes questioned, “What kind of a parent would allow their child to blaspheme God?”

A commenter in Starnes’ thread declared, “Let’s clear this up. The child is NOT praying to God. He IS praying to Obama.”

In the past, we have documented how Obama’s image in the mind of children has been elevated to a “messianic” cult-like status, promulgated through indoctrination facilities better known as public schools.

In 2009, for instance, Infowars writer Steve Watson detailed several disturbing stories wherein children attending public schools were made to “pledge allegiance every day at school to a huge projected image of the new president.”

We’ve also documented Obama’s manufactured ascendance to a cult of personality figure, and the dangerous slippery slope America begins down when it starts lifting presidents up as idols.

The next video features Illinois schoolchildren creepily chanting, “Yes we can,” followed by an accurate comparison to the Hitler Youth brigades.

Many may recognize the next video from 2008, in which a Missouri schoolteacher was found to be organizing some sort of student militant Obama youth group. Together they choreographed a routine where each student announced that “because of Obama” they could achieve certain things in life. They then sound off on Obama’s economic and healthcare policies.

This last video we found particularly disturbing as it features teenagers from a school in – of all places – Toronto, Canada, rendering a painful remix version of our beloved leader’s inauguration speech in his honor.

Massive underground system of tunnels and facilities costs 2.3 trillion dollars?

We’ve seen reports/pictures/videos of these in many places on the internet so they do exist, they are real. They didn’t just appear, they had to be built, so they had to be paid for.

The story below from (Before It's News) postulates that the 2.3 trillion dollars missing from the pentagon that Rummy announced at a news conference on the day before 9/11 are the likely source for the funds used for these underground facilities.

The pentagon was hit in the exact spot where the computers and records related to these missing trillions were kept. What a coincidence.

InfoWars report: Embassy Attack Threat “Had No Basis in Fact”; believe them or Obama?

We’re training our young military men and women to kill as though they are playing a computer game.

A high-ranking Yemeni security official has told McClatchy that the Obama administration’s recently announced terror threat which supposedly targeted US embassies had “no basis in fact” and was manufactured merely to dampen opposition to drone strikes.

After initially warning of a terror plot “thought to have been one of the most serious against American and other Western interests since the September 11 attacks,” the US closed 20 embassies and consulates earlier this month, 18 of which reopened yesterday.

The announcement of the threat occurred as it was simultaneously acknowledged that the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi last year was linked to a clandestine CIA arms smuggling operation based in the Libyan city that was being used to transport arms to rebels in Syria, many of whom are allied with Al-Qaeda militants.

The announcement of the threat against US embassies also served to justify blanket NSA surveillance, leading some to suggest that the alleged plot was being hyped to distract from the Edward Snowden scandal. It was later claimed that the NSA had intercepted a “conference call” of Al-Qaeda members during which militants discussed an attack.

However, in a report entitled U.S. embassies in Muslim world reopen amid still-murky threats, McClatchy cites, “A high-ranking Yemeni security official speaking on the condition of anonymity,” who told the news outlet that the threat “had no basis in fact,” with the source bemusedly attributing “media reports about imminent terror strikes to a single official’s comments, which he cast as a misguided attempt at shifting public opinion in the face of increasing and unpopular American drone strikes.”

Dozens of people, labeled “suspected militants” by the US, have been killed in Yemen over the last two weeks as a result of at least eight drone strikes, attacks that have outraged Yemeni citizens. According to Princeton University professor and Yemen expert Gregory Johnson, the drone strikes are actually serving to recruit more terrorists.

“There are strikes that kill civilians. There are strikes that kill women and children. And when you kill people in Yemen, these are people who have families. They have clans. And they have tribes. And what we’re seeing is that the United States might target a particular individual because they see him as a member of al-Qaeda. But what’s happening on the ground is that he’s being defended as a tribesman,” said Johnson.

Figures show that 50 civilians are killed for every one terrorist taken out by a drone strike, which means that 95% of the victims are innocent men, women and children.

As Ron Paul notes in his column today, while the Obama administration is conducting drone strikes in Yemen to supposedly target Al-Qaeda terrorists, the White House is simultaneously supporting the allies of Al-Qaeda terrorists, the vast majority of whom have pledged allegiance to Al-Qaeda, in Syria.

Furthermore, as the high-ranking Yemeni security official reveals, the administration is also apparently manufacturing terror plots in order to justify these drone strikes as well as mass NSA surveillance.

Holder takes step in right direction?

Wow, in the space of a month I’ve agreed with 2 people I thought I’d never agree with on any political issue. The 1st was Jimmy Carter who said in the wake of the government surveillance revealed by  ‘whistleblower’ Snowden:

Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter … in the wake of the NSA spying scandal criticized the American political system. “America has no functioning democracy,” Carter said Tuesday at a meeting of the “Atlantic Bridge” in Atlanta.

The other is AG Holder in this article from the Washington Post. I don’t think his motive is saving money as he says in the article though because that goes counter to everything else this administration has been doing; which is spending this nation into economic collapse.

It probably has to do with race, as statistically blacks are incarcerated at a greater rate than whites. It’s part of the strategy of ‘racial division’ Breitbart warned us about before he was assassinated!

This has been the most racists administration since the civil war. They allow voter intimidation as long as it’s blacks doing the intimidation, and refuse to pursue cases of black racism.

One of the president’s recent Executive Orders greatly changes the playing field in favor of blacks in the classroom by creating a massive brand new African-American education bureaucracy; Executive Order -- White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans. This is affirmative action on steroids!

Whatever the reason I believe it is a step in the right direction. Why should the government make criminals out of some drug users and not others, e. g., alcohol users. I don’t think it’s within the governments rightful powers to monitor what we eat, drink, or smoke.

Look what happened with ‘prohibition’; the murder, mayhem, and gangster culture it created. The ‘war on drugs’ has had the same miserable effect but on a global scale.

Holder seeks to avert mandatory minimum sentences for some low-level drug offenders

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. is set to announce Monday that low-level, nonviolent drug offenders with no ties to gangs or large-scale drug organizations will no longer be charged with offenses that impose severe mandatory sentences.

The new Justice Department policy is part of a comprehensive prison reform package that Holder will reveal in a speech to the American Bar Association in San Francisco, according to senior department officials. He is also expected to introduce a policy to reduce sentences for elderly, nonviolent inmates and find alternatives to prison for nonviolent criminals.

Justice Department lawyers have worked for months on the proposals, which Holder wants to make the cornerstone of the rest of his tenure.

“A vicious cycle of poverty, criminality and incarceration traps too many Americans and weakens too many communities,” Holder plans to say Monday, ­according to excerpts of his ­remarks that were provided to The Washington Post. “However, many aspects of our criminal justice system may actually exacerbate this problem rather than alleviate it.”

Holder is calling for a change in Justice Department policies to reserve the most severe penalties for drug offenses for serious, high-level or violent drug traffickers. He has directed his 94 U.S. attorneys across the country to develop specific, locally tailored guidelines for determining when federal charges should be filed and when they should not.

“Too many Americans go to too many prisons for far too long and for no good law enforcement reason,” Holder plans to say. “We cannot simply prosecute or incarcerate our way to becoming a safer nation.”

The attorney general can make some of these changes to drug policy on his own. He is giving new instructions to federal prosecutors on how they should write their criminal complaints when charging low-level drug offenders, to avoid triggering the mandatory minimum sentences. Under certain statutes, inflexible sentences for drug crimes are mandated regardless of the facts or conduct in the case, reducing the discretion of prosecutors, judges and juries.

Some of Holder’s other initiatives will require legislative change. Holder is urging passage of legislation with bipartisan support that is aimed at giving federal judges more discretion in applying mandatory minimum sentences to certain drug offenses.

“Such legislation will ultimately save our country billions of dollars,” Holder said of legislation supported by Sens. Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill.), Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vt.), Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.). “Although incarceration has a role to play in our justice system, widespread incarceration at the federal, state and local levels is both ineffective and unsustainable.”

The cost of incarceration in the United States was $80 billion in 2010, according to the Justice Department. While the U.S. population has increased by about a third since 1980, the federal prison population has grown by about 800 percent. Justice Department officials said federal prisons are operating at nearly 40 percent over capacity.

In a few short years we’ve witnessed the devastation of two of the most destructive tsunami’s in the history of the world. One has to wonder, what the heck is going on.

A woman can control what’s in her body to the extent that she can kill the babies growing there so what business is it of the government what I choose to put in my body?

I’m not saying I agree with abortion, I don’t, just pointing out the obvious fallacy of the argument that a woman should have control over her body as compared to the fact that we are not allowed to put in our bodies what we choose.

Why is a person arrested for smoking a joint but a doctor not arrested for killing a baby inside a woman because a woman doesn’t want to be burdened by the baby inside her?

A woman’s body is sacrosanct in the case of pregnancy but mine is not in the case of what I ingest? Where is the sense in that, where is the logic?

The ‘war on drugs’ was designed to make normal citizens criminals and make the CIA self sustaining. Where do they get all the money to fund their ‘black’ operations? I’ve read many articles that indicate that the CIA is the biggest drug cartel in the world!

The more laws the government makes the more criminals they make. If a citizen gets out of line all they have to do is go after him on one of the thousands of laws they’ve created!

If a person abuses drugs, they could arrest them like they do with alcohol. What is the difference? The war on drugs has filled our prisons, ruined countless lives by citizens being stigmatized with criminal records, made otherwise law abiding citizens potential criminals, but mostly created super criminal enterprises that make the Capone's look like choir boys in comparison!

The question is not should we make drugs legal but what right did we have to make them illegal!

Mexican Cartels Recruiting Assassins Among US Teens, Prison Gangs, Military

Breitbart News reported in April 2013 on declassified Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) documents that detailed the business relationships between certain U.S. prison gangs and Mexican cartels. At the same time the claim of a secured border falls apart, a disturbing trend has emerged: Mexican cartels recruiting assassins among American teens, prison gangs, and the U.S. military.

The matter should come as no surprise to anyone following the Mexican cartels’ exploitation of the porous and unsecured U.S./Mexico border. Mexican cartels have been sending their own operatives into the U.S. illegally to run operations; they have begun manufacturing their own methamphetamine within American borders; likely cartel victims’ corpses have been dug up from U.S. soil as far north as Oregon; and U.S.-based prison gangs have been found to be operating as domestic foot soldiers and enforcers in the Mexican cartels' U.S. operations. 

Additionally, an alleged Mexican cartel hitman was apprehended by U.S. law enforcement and claimed to have committed over thirty murders in the U.S. for the cartels. A Mexican cartel even sent goons to kidnap a man on U.S. soil, sneak the victim back into Mexico across the Rio Grande River, and then allegedly execute the victim -- even after they realized they had kidnapped an innocent man.

Children and teens from the southeast Texas border region have been found to caught in recruitment efforts from Mexican cartels, reports the U.K. Daily Mail. The publication tells the story of 24-year old Rosalio Reta, an American who committed his first murder for the Los Zetas cartel at the age of 13, along with a friend.

The question remains: How did two American teenagers become killers-for-hire for a Mexican drug cartel? Reta has spoken about his past at various times over the seven years since his arrest. His feelings about his bloody work have changed over the years, from chilling braggadocio as a 19-year-old in police interviews, to softly spoken, wet-eyed pleas for understanding in his latest interviews. Whatever Reta's true feelings about his past are, the facts have remained consistent.

They also quote the New York Times’ reporting on the issues surrounding teens recruitment from Mexican cartels. They write:

According to a New York Times article from 2009, most of the American youths were recruited in a Nuevo Laredo disco called Eclipse, situated in the main square just across one of two bridges that connect the two Laredos. 

Teenagers go there to drink and dance, but cartel members lurk there, keeping an eye out for possible recruits.

Detective Roberto Garcia of the Laredo Police Department told the New York Times, "The cartels - they just seduce you. They wave that power, that cash, the cars, the easy money. And these kids all have that romantic notion they are going to live forever."

The issue of Mexican cartels recruiting members of prison gangs, both inside and outside prison walls, has not only been heavily covered by Breitbart News, but the Daily Beast followed suit months later in a piece titled, “Mexican Cartels Tap U.S. Prisons to Expand Operations and Draft New Talent.”

Their coverage told the personal experiences of several prisoners: 

"I'm telling you, it’s like a job fair in here," a prisoner tells Gorilla Convict Seth Ferranti.

"Gangs like Tango Blast and the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas got Houston sewed up for los Zetas," the prisoner says. "The Zetas get them to steal cars, smuggle weapons to Mexico and start businesses to use as fronts." The gang members, often recruited in prison, are not part of the cartel hierarchy, but instead are employed on a work-for-hire basis. By incorporating preexisting American gangs into their operations, inside and outside prisons, the cartels have increasingly made the U.S. an operational hub, not just a distribution point.

Even more troubling, Mexican cartel recruitment among members of the U.S. military was detailed by Fox News in a recent article titled, “Mexican cartels hiring US soldiers as hit men.”

Mexican cartels are recruiting hit men from the U.S. military, offering big money to highly-trained soldiers to carry out contract killings and potentially share their skills with gangsters south of the border, according to law enforcement experts.

The report details the stories of several U.S. servicemen who were involved in separate incidents of murder-for-hire in the service of Mexican cartels.

“The involvement of three American soldiers in separate incidents, including a 2009 murder that led to last week’s life sentence for a former Army private, underscore a problem the U.S. military has fought hard to address,” says FOX News. Stratfor’s Fred Burton was quoted stating: 

Burton said some soldiers become corrupted by gangs after joining, while others are gang members who enlist specifically for the training they can get. "There has been a persistent gang problem in the military for the past six to eight years," Burton said, adding that cartels greatly value trained soldiers from the U.S., Mexico and Guatemala as sicarios – hit men.

Every politician who is soft on border control should be investigated and then hung! There are traitors in both parties, I doubt there are many that aren’t! We have a rogue government and it didn’t start with the felon in the White House…

A big problem though is who is going to investigate them? I nominate Sheriff Arpaio and his Cold Case Posse, I certainly don’t trust them to investigate themselves or some commission they would appoint, or a phony Special Prosecutor like Ken Starr who, with the multitude of crimes Clinton committed, could only bring up the Lewinski junk for the impeachment!

All the commissions do is cover up the real criminals. Do you believe the Warren Commission Report? How about the TWA 800 Commission Report that questioned 0 of the over 200 eyewitnesses that reported seeing missiles or rockets blasting towards the doomed jet, or the 9-11 Commission Report that George W. Bush totally controlled?

Ex-Border Patrol Agents Warn: Politicians Helping Cartels in U.S.

In an open letter to the public in late July, several retired Border Patrol agents wrote on behalf of the National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers to warn that Mexican drug cartels are actively operating inside the United States spending millions every year to try to build their networks here. They argued that American politicians are protecting their activities as well.

“Transnational criminal enterprises have annually invested millions of dollars to create and staff international drug and human smuggling networks inside the United States; thus it is no surprise that they continue to accelerate their efforts to get trusted representatives in place as a means to guarantee continued success,” the Border Patrol agents wrote. 

“We must never lose sight of the fact that the United States is the market place for the bulk of transnational criminal businesses engaged in human trafficking and the smuggling, distribution and sale of illegal drugs. Organized crime on this scale we are speaking about cannot exist without political protection.”

Gene Wood, a retired Border Patrol agent who once ran the agency’s San Diego station; William Glenn, a retired Border Patrol southwest region Chief Intelligence Agent; and Claude Guyant, another retired Border Patrol agent who served in leadership positions throughout the agency in his time there, all signed the letter.

“Most heroin, cocaine, meth, and marijuana marketed in the United States is produced outside of our country, and then smuggled into the United States,” they wrote. “The placement of trusted foreign employees inside the United States is imperative to insure success in continuing to supply the demand, and returning the profits to the foreign organization. Members of these vicious transnational crime syndicates are already well established in more than 2,000 American cities and their numbers are increasing as networks expand and demands accelerate. These transnational criminals present a real and present danger to all Americans, and they live among us.”

As Breitbart News’ Brandon Darby reported on Wednesday, cartels are recruiting American teens, prison gang members and military members to become assassins for their organizations. 

After they have been recruited and become part of these transnational criminal organizations, according to the former Border Patrol agents, those teens “are absolutely controlled and totally committed members of foreign drug cartels who have demonstrated an ability and willingness to follow the business model of criminal enterprise which is simply to supply the demand for illegal drugs and aliens in the United States and return the profits to their handlers abroad, at any cost.”

“Sanctuary cities established throughout the United States discourage even the most basic law enforcement initiatives within their boundaries against these predatory criminals,” they wrote. “Encouraged by Congress and a disinterested mainstream news media, these havens deny the American public their constitutional right to national security and public safety while providing relative safety for dangerous foreign criminals.”

The retired Border Patrol agents called on Congress to abandon efforts to grant amnesty to illegal aliens because passing an amnesty would be akin to abetting the drug cartels.

“Congress must abandon their focus on rewarding illegal behavior for millions of persons by the grant of amnesty in favor of protecting American citizens who suffer daily at the hands of these seasoned criminals,” they wrote. “To do otherwise makes a mockery of our laws, and encourages countless millions more from around the globe to do the same. Transnational organized crime nationwide has flourished under these conditions.”

Police: Drivers, Beware Of ‘Sliders,’ Because They Are Most Certainly Aware Of You

Thieves Move Quickly, Snatch Your Items, Often From Underneath Your Nose

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — They are gone in less than 60 seconds!

Crooks are swiping ladies’ purses from right under their noses – and it could happen to anyone, CBS 2’s Jessica Schneider reported Wednesday.

Surveillance video obtained by CBS 2 shows a woman filling up her SUV. A silver car is seen pulling up next to her like just another customer.

While the woman focuses on the gas pump, the opportunistic crook makes his move, crouching down, opening the passenger side door and grabbing the unsuspecting woman’s purse from inside.

What you’ve just seen is a “slider” in action. It was an entire crime that took less than 19 seconds.

“They say it’s sliding because they’re sliding below the eye level of the door,” a law enforcement official said.

And it’s happening over and over again.

Surveillance cameras also recently capture a scene where, while a woman was inside the store, a thief is seen surveying the situation.

Once she’s back outside and focused on the pump, the man leaps into her driver’s side window, grabs her purse and, just as quickly, is gone.

All the while she never notices a thing.

“A vehicle is not a secure location for your property,” the official said.

Police say sliders take advantage of distraction and prey on a common misconception. Most of us think no one would be crazy enough to break into a car while the driver is standing right next to it.

But sliders are proving that line of thinking is just wrong.

Some drivers said Wednesday they do what they can to protect themselves.

“I don’t hold the pump. I usually click the holder on the pump so I can have time to actually scan what’s going on around me,” driver Sydney Zenon said.

“It should probably be in the glove compartment, underneath the seat somewhere. On my side versus the passenger side, lesson learned,” Andrea Kahle added.

Police said these burglaries can be prevented, and advise women to always lock their doors.

Police also said it is best if women keep their purses out of sight, or simply take them when they are away from their vehicles.
