The Source of TSA Tyranny: Follow the Money

TSA Tyranny: Starting and Ending with Money

Michael Chertoff, former Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has promoted the TSA’s voyeur machines and lobbied on behalf of private business interests within the government-industrial complex.

One client of Chertoff Group is backscatter machine manufacturer Rapiscan. Roger Cohen writes: “Rapiscan: Say the name slowly. It conjures up a sinister science fiction. When a government has a right to invade the bodies of its citizens, security has trumped freedom.”

Among the key figures lobbying on L-3's behalf is Linda Daschle, wife of former Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, the South Dakota Democrat.

L-3 Communications, which has sold $39.7 million worth of machines to the TSA, has spent $4.3 million on lobbying the federal government thus far this year, though it is not clear how much of that money was spent on lobbying the TSA.
