MSNBC's Contessa Brewer schooled in economics by GOP Congressman with ‘Highest honors degree’

Contessa my dear, you should never ask a question you don’t know the answer to in an interview where you are trying to diss the guest! You got schooled!!!

By the way Contessa, do you have a degree in economics?

MSNBC To GOP Congressman: "Do You Have A Degree In Economics?"

MSNBC's Contessa Brewer, you may remember just yesterday said the attack on Rupert Murdoch at a hearing encapsulated what the British were feeling.
Today, Contessa "educated" a conservative Representative that if Congress does not raise the debt raising, the country would be "reverting into a depression." Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) said he disagreed which prompted the MSNBC host to ask him if he had a degree in economics.
"Yes ma'am, I do. Highest honors," Rep. Brooks responded.

Alternate headline: Senate group offers $1.2 trillion in new taxes

See how the media frames the headline to favor the communist, er, democrats.

This is the same old s*** they do every d*** time. The $3.75 trillion deficit cuts are over 10 years and will never, ever happen BUT the new revenues (translate taxes) will take place immediately and will take 10 years to get rid of!

WASHINGTON | Tue Jul 19, 2011 2:11pm EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A bipartisan group of U.S. senators on Tuesday revived an ambitious budget plan that could provide new ideas for breaking the impasse in Congress over raising the nation's credit limit by August 2.

President Barack Obama threw his support behind the proposal by the "Gang of Six" senators, saying it was broadly consistent with his approach on reducing debt and deficits.

Obama urged Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a fellow Democrat, and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell to start "talking turkey" about it.

Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad, one of the six Democratic and Republican senators who have been working since December on a deficit-reduction plan, said the proposed $3.75 trillion in savings over 10 years contains $1.2 trillion in new revenues

Ruling Class Inside Joke

White hat or black hat…who is Wayne Madsen?

Seems to have a communist leaning background but his affiliation with Russian TV isn’t any more a negative that an association with most American media outlets e. g., the NY Times.

Wayne Madsen: Leftist Spin Merchant and “Red Diaper Baby”

Submitted by Trevor on July 18, 2011

Wayne Madsen

Investigative “journalist” Wayne Madsen is one of the most prolific purveyors of anti-American “literature” currently operating in the US.

Madsen is one of the main promoters of the “Barack Obama is a CIA asset” theme. Madsen has promoted this theory in a number of articles and media interviews, though he has presented only the flimsiest of evidence to back up his claim.

Previously he has written anti-US books such as “Forbidden Truth – US-Taliban Secret Oil Diplomacy and the Failed Hunt for Osama bin Laden,” (which “exposes” US double dealing and covert activities re the Taliban and the war in Afghanistan) and “America’s Nightmare -the Presidency of George Bush II.”

Madsen is also a regular contributor to Kremlin propaganda channel Russia Today, described by former Soviet K.G.B. officer Konstantin Preobrazhensky, as “part of the Russian industry misinformation and manipulation created recently in the USA by Putin’s KGB. It is including the utilization of some American think-tanks and political scientists, their direct work up by Putin at annual meetings in Russia, putting Russian Americans under Kremlin’s control, etc. This industry aims at creating an inadequate, adorned image of Russia, provoking American to make wrong steps in their Russian politics.”

It should come as little surprise to learn that Wayne Madsen’s paternal grandmother Victoria Madsen, was a leading official of the Danish Communist Party during WWII. After the war, Victoria Madsen immigrated to the United States but was later deported for her activism.

Wayne Madsen’s father served on a Danish merchant vessel that shipped arms and ammunition to the Republican-controlled Basque ports of Santander and San Sebastian, during the Spanish Civil War. The Republican side, which was defeated by Franco’s fascist supported loyalists, was led by the Communist parties of Spain and the Soviet Union.

In 2003 Wayne Madsen wrote an article What’s a Fifth Columnist? for the leftist website in which he revealed his own socialist sympathies and propensity for distorting the truth to suit the “party line.”

Some extracts:

After recently returning from Spain and after many discussions with Spanish, Catalonian, and Basque friends about the Spanish Civil War, I decided to do a Google search to see if there were any new revelations about the war — a war in which I’m proud to say my late father participated in on the side of the Republican and anti-Fascist Popular Front government…

My father served on a Danish merchant vessel that shipped arms and ammunition from that nasty Stalinist Russia to the Republican-controlled Basque ports of Santander and San Sebastian. That effort was organized by the Social Democratic-controlled merchants’ union in Copenhagen. Russia was one of the few countries in the world that was willing to supply the Republican side with much needed weapons and communications systems to counter the heavy influx of Nazi German and Italian Fascist support for the Franco forces….

When my father trekked into the Basque Pyrenees to help install radio stations for the Republican side, it was done with the assistance of a number of international volunteers for the Republican cause, including American, French, and British partisans. So Hitchens is flat out wrong when he states that the Spanish Republicans were hijacked by Stalin and every Republican volunteer was an unwitting tool of the Soviet Comintern. That is just pure right-wing claptrap…

When one looks at the underground movements that fought the Germans during Nazi occupation, the Communists and left-wing socialists served as the activist vanguards for the resistance movements. In Denmark, where my grandmother Victoria Madsen, an official of the Danish Communist Party and newspaper (who also fought as a resistance leader), it was the Communists who were the most willing to attack the Germans and die for the cause of liberation of their country from the Nazi yoke. It was the Communists and their left Socialist allies who largely organized the secret boatlift of Danish and other Jews to safety in Sweden.

Likewise, in Spain, it was the Communist trade unions that organized workers into militias to fight the Fascists in cities like Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia…

(Christopher) Hitchens uses a big paintbrush to tar and feather all International Brigaders as “Communists.” Of course, the Abraham Lincoln and International Brigades were full of Hitchens’ “Communist” supporters — John Dos Passos, Dashiell Hammett, Ernest Hemingway, George Orwell, Paul Robeson, Archibald MacLeish, John Steinbeck, W. H. Auden, and Esmond Romilly (the nephew of Winston Churchill)…

Hitchens’ use of the term “infiltration” is also interesting. It was a favorite term of Senator Joe McCarthy and Richard Nixon. But now the term can be used for people like Hitchens, who obviously has been used by the neo-cons to infiltrate progressive movements and gatherings as a “fifth columnist.” When it comes to the Spanish Civil War, and who was right and who was wrong, I’ll defer to my progressive Spanish, Catalonian, and Basque friends, as well as to the memories my father had of that grand war against the same types of imperialistic right-wingers who Hitchens now prefers to keep in his company.

This is the man that is being taken as a credible source by thousands, if not millions of Americans.

If Wayne Madsen can convince a sizable number of Americans that Barack Obama is a C.I.A. asset, he will have achieved several goals of major advantage to the left.

  • He will serve to obscure Obama’s long term ties to the far left, including some to activists who had documented ties to the Soviet government .
  • He will have disarmed thousands of potential Obama opponents, by giving them a false sense of security.. “Oh well, we don’t like Obama, and what he’s doing, but at least he is working for OUR side!”
  • He will have sent hundreds of good researchers off chasing wild geese , who could have been actively pursuing Obama’s easily provable ties to pro-Soviet elements.
  • He will be able to blame Obama’s crazy schemes on the C.I.A., further undermining American’s confidence in their security services.
  • He will have helped to discredit ALL “Obama conspiracy theories,’ even those based on solid evidence.

The name of the game is dis-information. Divide and conquer. Psychological warfare.

If anyone needs to be investigated, it is Wayne Madsen and his friends at Russia Today.

Not debt ceiling black ceiling, so says Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) as she plays race card

Jackson Lee: Congress complicating debt ceiling because Obama is black

By Josiah Ryan - 07/15/11 03:02 PM ET

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) on Friday strongly suggested that members of Congress are making it difficult for President Obama to raise the debt ceiling because of his race.

"I do not understand what I think is the maligning and maliciousness [toward] this president,” said Jackson Lee, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus. “Why is he different? And in my community, that is the question that we raise. In the minority community that is question that is being raised. Why is this president being treated so disrespectfully? Why has the debt limit been raised 60 times? Why did the leader of the Senate continually talk about his job is to bring the president down to make sure he is unelected?”

Earlier in her speech, Jackson Lee said Obama has been targeted unlike any other president.

How stupid is Obama’s base? He already cut Medicare by $500 billion to pay for his health care law.

McConnell goes wobbly on debt ceiling stance after saying ‘solution unattainable with Obama in Oval Office’

Did McConnell attain his position without being a member of the ‘ruling class’? That is the question.

Fury on the right as McConnell outlines new plan for Obama to raise debt ceiling

Conservative groups that had been anxiously hoping to use this summer's debt ceiling vote as a rare opportunity to reduce government spending were furious Wednesday when Senate Republicans outlined a plan to raise the limit without ensured spending cuts.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell outlined a complex and procedure-heavy proposal Tuesday (details here) to give President Obama the ability to raise the debt ceiling in increments without Republican support. McConnell unveiled the plan just before leaving Capitol Hill Tuesday to meet with Obama to continue discussions for a possible deal between the parties.

McConnell was careful to describe his plan as a "last-choice option" but several conservative groups took aim at the minority leader for effectively destroying, in their view, any leverage Republicans had to negotiate with the president.

Michael A. Needham, CEO of Heritage Action, the advocacy arm of the conservative Heritage Foundation, called it a "serious walk back" from the party's long-held position on the debt ceiling deal.

"Republicans in Congress have been expressing their intent to use the debt ceiling as a means to secure systemic reforms that could save our country from fiscal collapse," Needham said. "The plan that we are reading reports about today is a serious walk back from that position and would seemingly trade the leverage needed to achieve reforms in return for political gains."

FreedomWorks, a Washington-based group that organized some of the largest tea party rallies in 2009 and 2010, sent McConnell's office number to its member lists and urged them to help him "find his spine."

"If Sen. McConnell thinks cutting spending is too hard, maybe he should listen to the tea party grassroots that sent 87 additional Republicans to Congress last year," said Freedom Works Vice President Dean Clancy. "We want to see real cuts, spending caps with teeth, and a Balanced Budget Amendment. We'll be encouraging our million-plus members to help Sen. McConnell find his spine."

Conservative bloggers were no friendlier.

"Mitch McConnell wants to make it even easier by allowing Congress to go through a dog and pony show of feigned cuts that never get cut while allowing escalation of our national debt," wrote RedState.com editor Erick Erickson in a post originally titled, "It's Time to Burn Mitch McConnell in Effigy." "2014 cannot come soon enough to destroy the political future of this weasel."

"Three letters come to mind," wrote Michelle Malkin, a conservative commentator. "W.T.F.?!!"

Bernanke Fights Ron Paul In Congress: Gold Isn’t Money

By AGUSTINO FONTEVECCHIA

Bernanke faced Ron Paul in Congress - H4cblog

Chairman Ben Bernanke faced-off with Fed-hating Representative Ron Paul during his monetary policy report to Congress on Wednesday. The head of the Fed was forced to respond to accusations of enriching already rich corporations while failing to help Main Street, while he was pushed on his views on gold. When asked whether gold is money, Bernanke flatly responded “No.”

While most of Bernanke’s reports to Congress serve politicians to pursue their own agendas by gearing the Chairman towards their issues, with Republican Rep. Bacchus talking of the unsustainability of Medicaid and Rep. Frank (D, Mass.) asking about the need to raise the debt limit without cutting spending, it was a stand-off between Bernanke and Ron Paul that took all the attention. (Read Apocalyptic Bernanke: Raise The Debt Ceiling Or Else).

Rep. Ron Paul, Republican for Texas, asked Bernanke why a capital injection of more than $5 trillion “hasn’t done much” to help the consumer, who makes up about two-thirds of GDP in the U.S., and prop up the economy, while it helped boost corporate profits. “You could’ve given $17,000 to each citizen,” Ron Paul claimed.

Bernanke, clearly on the defensive, told Rep. Ron Paul that his institution hadn’t spent a single dollar, rather, the Fed has been a “profit center” according to the Chairman, returning profits to the federal government. As Bernanke began to sermon Rep. Paul on the history of the Fed (“we are here to provide liquidity [in abnormal situations],” the Chairman said), he was interrupted.

“When you wake up in the morning, do you think about the price of gold,” Rep. Paul asked. After pausing for a second, Bernanke responded, clearly uncomfortable. that he paid much attention to the price of gold, only to be interrupted once again.

“Gold’s at about $1,580 [an ounce] this morning, what do you think of the price of gold?” asked Rep. Paul. A stern-faced Bernanke responded people bought it for protection and was once again cut-off, with Ron Paul once again on the offensive.

“Is gold money?” he asked. Clearly bothered, Bernanke told the representative, “No. It’s a precious metal.”

After Paul interrupted him to note the long history of gold being used as money, Bernanke continued,”It’s an asset. Would you say Treasury bills are money? I don’t think they’re money either but they’re a financial asset.”

It’s idiotic to change corn to fuel, same for grass…but at least people don’t eat grass

Global warming is a fraud and it takes more energy/costs to change corn/grass to fuel than is gained by the end product.

Growing perennial grasses on the least productive farmland now used for corn ethanol production in the U.S. would result in higher overall corn yields, more ethanol output per acre and better groundwater quality, researchers report in a new study. The switch would also slash emissions of two potent greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide.
