Reid: Don’t defund NPR because of ‘Cowboy Poetry Festival’. Is it held on Brokeback Mountain?

Harry Reid’s Quest to Save the Cowboy Poetry Festival

Calling proposed Republican budget cuts  “mean-spirited,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid took to the floor of the Senate to defend an important part of American culture that could lose federal funding if Republicans have their way.

The National Cowboy Poetry Gathering, held in Elko, Nevada since 1985, brings in thousands of performers, artists and poets for the week-long festival. The U.S. Senate passed a resolution in 2000 honoring the event.

Yes, Reid is defending cowboys who like poetry (or is it poets who like dressing up as cowboys?).  I’m sure there is a Brokeback Mountain joke in there somewhere…
